How to start your own business

One of main objectives of “Fashion with Traditional Aspects” project is to develop skills for research and inspiration for designing sustainable fashion articles. However, Valladolid School of Art has been conveying these values for decades and results are quite obvious. Two illustration former students have decided to run their own business by matching fashion and art. “Tiquismiquis” is a shop where you can find unique cloths and accessories handmade painted. Many of us wonder what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Which are the core attributes for starting a business? ambition?, creativity?, tenacity? personality? Professor Ana Quintas teaches the rules of the market and has invited Tiquismiquis owner to give a lecture at the School about how to create a fashion business and succeed.

Historical Costumes

Visiting the exposition of Renaissance costumes in the times of Queen Isabel I of Castile is like travelling back in time to relive some of history’s most memorable events and people.
They paved the way for today’s modern women clothes and now you can embrace their glamourous spirit in these costumes.

Dress-making becomes definitely an art and tailors reach the top in their profession; they are called sewist, a new term combining the words “sew” and “artist” to describe someone who creates sewn works of art.

During this guided visit we could enjoy the accurate explanations of Carmen who is speciliazed in historical costumes and kindly answered questions.Thank you very much.

Casa Revilla, Valladolid. From 4 February to 8 March 2015

Muchas gracias.

Folk Costume

Teachers and students are all invited to attend the exhibition about Castilian traditional costume folk dance performance group of Tordesillas (20km from Valladolid). They intend to share their love and knowledge of traditional folk clothing and embroidery as well as to spread interest into this particular art form. Among the outfits we can see, there is the typical one from our region: Bonnet of gold lace supported by steel wire, and secured with a brocade ribbon. Skirt of fine red homewoven wool. Bodice and corset of black wool with gold galloon. Apron of black silk. Knit stockings. Shoes of black leather with laces. But there is a great deal of variation in the details and models for children and grown-ups. During the visit, some of us could converse and exchange views with needlewomen specialised in embroidery. Despite the current crisis, this traditional industry stays alive. We will keep contact with them.
J.L. Mosquera Center. 2nd-14th February 2015
