For HER

Paper Dolls

There are many ways of approaching sustainable fashion.
We want to show you the essay written by Coral Benavides about how to launch a business related to fashion and children.  Coral recovers the traditional paper dolls with which we used to play. For her, dressing and undressing paper dolls not only is a funny past-time but also a way of becoming aware of the need of recycling and reusing clothes. Find out more info here.

Ruben's T-shirts

Nowadays, people throw out clothes because they either want a change, the items have gone out of fashion or no longer fit the person (especially children).  Sometimes we change our lifestyle or status (e.g. school uniforms, sportswear, maternity clothes) and we can’t wear anymore the same items.

At the same time an overwhelming majority (86%) of EU citizens said they would buy products made of recycled materials and almost 7 out of 10 citizens said that they were willing to buy certain products second-hand.

The most forward looking businesses in the fashion sector are doing this through sourcing products for their collections from recycled yarn, fabric or garments, so that fibres do not have to be manufactured or transported from abroad.  The key word is to learn to be ecological.

Student Ruben Herrero got the idea of producing t-shirts with a print drawing from his own. This may be an intelligent way of giving a second chance to clothes by customizing them. Read what Ruben has to say about his project:

"For the final project I decided to develop two different styles that are related, the first would be freer style using traditional techniques, a combination of reasons that clash, materials and textures that take on a new dimension and meaning. the second would be closer to graphic design, is to create a series of vector artwork using the minimum of colors for drawings, photographs and different fonts, create images with different meanings somewhat open to interpretation but easy to understand. This series of images could be easily applied to the printing by using few colors and these are flat.
A small book cover these designs as a catalog, various techniques with a distinct style and especially with a great moral and poetic content.

In my work I try to use recycled materials and organic forms for stamping, textures, paper cuts and everything I have on hand to express an idea, is not filling a framework, if not to use it minimum to express the maximum, this is the most important rule of my style, although my style lacks standards, this makes me enjoy more of what I do and escape the provisions, but it is not always so, sometimes it is best to stick to some demands, it is the part that a company dedicated to restoration Bicycle, this company demand my work for advertising and commercial purpose. This company is called Bellantique and needs from the design of logo, T-shirt, packaging...these products will be dedicated to a young public".

The Magic Needle

Among the specific objectives of our Leonardo Project, we wanted to point out these two: “To raise awareness and respect in cultural traditions” and “To develop awareness of the extend and diversity of opportunities in learning and work”. The final project presented by Illustration student Silvia Martínez succeeds in matching this two objectives. It is called "The Magic Needle"; sewing and drawing at the same time become possible through this amazing tool. Silvia uses it to embroider colorful wedding gifts based on naïf motifs and sells them on her web page.
To do this, Silvia has carried out a deep research on art naïf (available here) and has presented a complete project.

We wish to support our students; professionals can look at Silvia´s curriculum vitae and porfolio and buy her products.
